Dark and rainy weekend in store for KZN

KwaZulu-Natal residents have been warned to brace themselves for a wet and dark weekend.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of possible localised flooding throughout KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.


Light rain is expected to start on Friday afternoon leading into the night. 


SAWS says we can expect a heavier day of downpours on Saturday in Durban with showers and thundershowers forecasted for most of the day. 


Forecaster Wiseman Dlamini says Sunday might be a bit better, with only rain expected.

"There might be some significant lightning and also a possibility of strong winds because of the thunderstorm activity as well as some showers expected. 


"The warning is only valid for tomorrow. At this stage there are no warning for Sunday. However, there is still a good chance of rain on Sunday over the whole province. At the moment we are going for 60% chance of showers and thundershowers." 


Meanwhile, Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says while stage 3 load shedding has been suspended for now, power cuts will still be a reality.


"Load shedding will be maintained at stage 2 continuously until further notice. There will be no stage 3 load shedding during the evenings, as had been previously communicated."
