DA welcomes Concourt ruling on SASSA matter
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The DA has welcomed the Constitutional Court judgement in the matter involving the uninterrupted payments of social grants.
The Constitutional Court has today ordered that the contract between the Social Security Agency of South Africa and Cash Paymaster Services continue for another year to ensure the payment of social grants in the interim.
In 2014, the Constitutional Court ruled that the contract SASSA signed with CPS in 2012 was illegal and invalid.
The department and SASSA were then given until March 31 2017 for the parties to insource the administrative requirements to distribute grants.

Despite assurances from Minister Bathabile Dlamini, SASSA's legal representative Advocate Andrew Breitenbach revealed in court that it's not possible for SASSA to ensure there's no disruptions in the payment of grants should the contract lapse.
The court ruling comes after the Black Sash, a human rights group, filed an urgent application at the Constitutional Court on this matter.
The party's Bridgette Masango says it's a victory for the 17 million social grants beneficiaries.
"I feel the judgement has confirmed a view that we've held all along as the Democratic Alliance that the Minister has orchestrated this whole emergency so that at the end of the day, CPS is the one that does the work," she said.
