The party had a protest on Friday at the city's electricity headquarters and handed over a memorandum to officials.

It says power cuts, a dysfunctional billing system and the lengthy time that residents have to wait before their queries can be attended to are just some of the problems.

The DA's Nicole Graham says this can no longer be the status quo.

"We want an explanation as to what the department's plans are when it comes to vandalism and theft of cables and that's a huge problem and ultimately, the municipality needs to come up with a response.

"We also want there be proper consequence management, there are come good officials but those who aren't doing their jobs must be held accountable and we want there to be an improved ESM supply chain processes.

"People deserve a service and that's fundamentally want we are demanding from the municipality."
