DA terminates Patricia de Lille's membership
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The DA has terminated Patricia de Lille's membership, and as a result, she is no longer the Mayor of Cape Town.
Federal executive chair, James Selfe says according to the DA's constitution - if a member publicly declares their intention to resign from the party, their membership ceases.
Speaking at a media briefing in Cape Town this morning, Selfe says De Lille made those remarks during an interview with a Gauteng-based radio station.
Selfe says de Lille was questioned on what she meant by the statement.
"She attempted to argue that this referred to her resigning as the Mayor. The Federal Legal Commission of the party found that the context showed very clearly that she intended to resign from the DA," Selfe explained.
He adds that she has been made aware of the commission's decision, saying that her membership had ceased with effect from the 26th of April, the date of the radio interview.
