DA says Level 3 announcement is too late
Updated | By Jacaranda fm
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says the lockdown beyond the initial three weeks has caused "irreparable damage to our economy."
Interim leader, John Steenhuisen says the party welcomes President Cyril Ramphosa's announcement of moving to COVID-19 level 3 lockdown.
However, Steenhuisen believes the lowering of the strict regulations comes six weeks too late.
"There was no rational justification to extend the hard lockdown beyond the initial three weeks, and this extension has now caused irreparable damage to our economy.
"The resulting hardship and suffering – and ultimately, the premature deaths of South African citizens due to this – will have been largely avoidable," says Steenhuisen.

Steenhusien says the government and Ramaphosa will need to answer for this.
He adds government did not use the past five weeks to ready itself for the wave of infections.
