DA says govt seeks to control citizens with regulations
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
With just hours to go before we officially enter level 4 lockdown, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has hit out saying the level is merely a model of state control in disguise.
While there are a few relaxed conditions, especially around food delivery, sector operations and exercise, however, the opposition says other than that level 4 is simply a copy and paste of level 5.
The DA's Solly Malatsi says government is purposely holding onto power at the expense of liberations and rights of citizens.
He says there is not much room to breath afforded to the people.
"It is clear that many of these regulations are done with a lack of trust in the public in doing the right thing."
"Some of our concerns include the ban on smoking and the sale of hot foods and also the restrictions around not being able to go for hair cuts - which we know given our economy particularly in the informal economy that that sector provides livelihoods for many working-class people who run salons and barbers outside of their homes to support their family."
