Johannesburg: Mpho Phalatse

Nelson Mandela Bay: Nqaba Banga

Cape Town: Geordin Hill-Lewis

Party leader John Steenhuisen said the party is announcing the candidates now to ensure voters have time to get to know them.

"Very few other parties have done this, the ANC certainly does not seem to have any desire to let you know who their mayoral candidates are. And this is a shame because South Africans deserve far better from this hard one democracy where they get to play an active role all the way up to election day.”

In her acceptance speech, Phalatse vowed to hit the ground running with the election campaign.

"I am wholeheartedly committed to upholding upon the DA's record of good governance and for the people of Johannesburg so they can realise a full five years of change.”

Phalatse said Johannesburg needs a clean-up.

DA Eastern Cape Leader Nqaba Banga said the first order of business in Nelson Mandela Bay is addressing inequality and joblessness.

Steenhuisen said the candidates will be on the road assuring South Africans that the party produces results.

"The DA is a forward-looking party, we acknowledge the injustices of the past but we make plans for the future. The DA is a party of ideas and values, not identity.

“The DA is also an actual party of government this means we are in the business of making government work by carefully planning how every rand is spent for the benefit of the people, not the politicians," he said.
