DA, Cope to march to SABC

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, will on Monday lead a march to the SABC's headquarters in Auckland Park.

The march comes after the SABC announced last week that it's controversial former COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, was given another top job after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling that his appointment was unlawful.

A ruling by the Western Cape High Court earlier found that the board did not follow the correct process in appointing Motsoeneng as the SABC's COO.

DA spokesperson, Mabine Seabe, says they will also protest against the loss of more than R 400 million incurred by the public broadcaster in the past financial year. The DA is set to be joined by fellow opposition party Cope.

"We will be handing over a memorandum to a representative of the SABC," Seabe told Jacaranda FM News.

Meanwhile. the DA has also joined calls for the board of the SABC to be dissolved.

In a statement the DA said it supported the ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu's call for the dissolution of the SABC board.

"The DA has repeatedly called for a parliamentary inquiry to be conducted into the SABC. This includes the board's fitness to hold office," the party said in a statement.

Board members last week confirmed that they will be advertising the position of COO and that anyone could apply for the job, including Motsoeneng.
