DA booted out of Durban's Addington Hospital

Members of the DA have been kicked off the grounds of Durban's Addington Hospital after arriving at the health facility, despite the KZN Health Department denying them permission for an oversight visit.

The intended visit was meant to follow the South African Human Rights Commission's oncology report, which found that the department and MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo violated the rights of cancer patients.

The party claims they were granted permission for the visit to the hospital's oncology unit last week.

When members of the opposition party made their way to the oncology unit this morning, they were stopped by security and the unit was locked.

They then went to the CEO's office, where DA spokesperson for health, Imran Keeka said they would have to be physically removed.

"By physically removing us from the hospital, we are not going to back-down. He cannot stop us unless he provides the legal argument that honourable Kopane has asked for. There is no other way. If the security is going to remove us let it be, but we are going ahead," he said.
