Convicted south coast racist Penny Sparrow dies
Convicted south coast racist, Penny Sparrow has died.
Her family confirmed to the South Coast Herald newspaper that she had been suffering from colon cancer.
Sparrow was thrust into the spotlight after posting a racist rant on Facebook in 2016.
She described black beachgoers as monkeys on Facebook.
The Equality Court found Sparrow guilty of hate speech. She was also convicted of crimen injuria.
The incident sparked a massive backlash on social media, with many debates, arguments and heated posts shared on race and racism in South Africa.
