The inclement weather in the province has brought with it a number of road accidents. Three people were killed in a smash on the N2, near Zinkwazi, yesterday morning. Two cars crashed into one another, leaving all those who had been travelling in them trapped in the wreckage.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says they were critically hurt.

"Three critically ill patients were extricated from the vehicle and stabilised before being transported to Lenmed eThekwini Heart Hospital. Unfortunately, three additional occupants had sustained fatal injuries", he said.

And two people died in a collision involving a mini-bus taxi and a bakkie on Harriette Colenso Road, in Pietermaritzburg, also yesterday morning.

Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says two people were confirmed dead.

"Sadly two people died in the collision and another six people sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Once stabilized all the patients were transported to hospital for further assessment", he said.

"All necessary authorities were on scene", Herbst said.
