COVID-19 testing in under-serviced KZN areas to receive boost
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
Testing for the coronavirus has received a boost in KwaZulu-Natal - thanks to the addition of two Transnet healthcare trains.
In an effort to increase testing rates for the virus, dedicated doctors and nurses, with specialist training in COVID-19 testing, will visit under-serviced areas across the province.
Premier Sihle Zikalala says these additional mobile units will take the province forward in its bid to contain the spread of the virus.
"We want to thank Transnet for their contribution in the fight against coronavirus. This is a fight that needs all of us to unit and consolidate efforts and to work together in a synergised approach so that we will be able to overcome this challenge."
KZN Director at Transnet Sulema Paruk says the trains will help reach rural parts of the province with limited access to healthcare.
"We decided we need to join govenment to fight this virus and flatten the curve, and that's the reason why we support this initiative."
