COVID-19 putting media companies under strain
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala says the COVID-19 pandemic has put more pressure on media houses that were already in trouble
He joined a virtual meeting with the South African National Editors Forum yesterday.
Zikalala says the fragile state of the South African economy is among the factors that have led to some media companies being in dire straits.
"Due to the online evolution the communication and media sector had shed jobs due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution but now also due to COVID-19", he said.

He has applauded SANEF for starting a media relief fund for affected journalists and media houses.
"We want to pledge our commitment that we engage with the public and private sectors to contribute", Zikalala said.
