COVID-19 claims 4 KZN teachers, security guard
Four teachers and a school security guard have died as a result of COVID-19 in KwaZulu-Natal, according to Premier Sihle Zikalala.
Zikalala delivered the sad news during a COVID-19 update briefing on Sunday, where he highlighted other school-related matters.
"They are two teachers from Zululand, one teacher from Umzinyathi, one teacher from Umlazi and a security guard from ILembe.
"The total number of affected schools is currently 345 schools in the province. The good news is that 236 schools have returned to full operation after all due processes were followed," says Zikalala.
He says as of Sunday, COVID-19 cases in the provincial schooling system have doubled to 429 from 187 last week.

uMgungundlovu remains the hardest-hit district with 93 positive cases in schools.
"The number of infected individuals in our schools is increasing. This week the number of reported positive cases is at 429, which is an increase of 242 from 187 cases we reported last week.
"The new figure includes 306 teachers, 81 learners and 42 other employees of the Department. UMgungundlovu District remains the hardest-hit district with 93 positive cases," says Zikalala.
