It was closed to the public nearly two weeks ago after several mothers, newborns, and healthcare workers tested positive for COVID-19.

The hospital stopped taking in patients almost two weeks ago. Speaking at a media briefing in Mayville yesterday, Premier Sihle Zikalala said the hospital has been decontaminated.

"We wish to thank the people of greater Kwadukuza, patience and cooperation while this facility remained closed. we also extend our gratitude to the personnel who had to be deployed outside these facilities, ensuring our people continue to have access to primary healthcare services."

Meanwhile, the Inanda Community Health Centre will remain closed for now.

Four nurses and one doctor contracted the virus last week. The clinic was closed for fumigation on Thursday.

Zikalala says there have been no new positive cases at the clinic.

"We since tested all employees for Covid-19 and their results are being conveyed to them on a continuous basis. employees who test negative will be allowed to return to work after a period of quarantine. If anyone of them tests positive, they will not return to work until they test negative."

Zikalala says there are strong indications the entire province will move down to level three of the lockdown at the end of this month.  But it would require strict compliance with the safety regulations.
