Coronavirus: KZN hospitals ready
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Provincial Legislature believes KZN hospitals are ready to deal with any cases of the Coronavirus.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Heath visited Durban's Addington Hospital yesterday to assess the facility's readiness in the event of cases. Nomakiki Majola says Addington is a crucial hospital as it's closest to the port.
"Addington Hospital is suitable and ideal for handling any case that is meant to be isolated. Even its layout is such that there is only one entrance which takes you straight to isolation as opposed to going through patients' wards", she said.
Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases says 42 samples taken from individuals with symptoms have come back negative.
Professor Cheryl Cohen is with the institute and says sampling and testing is ongoing.
"It is important to note that the collection and testing of samples from individuals with symptoms is normal and demonstrates effective surveillance for the virus", she said.
