Political analyst Levy Ndou says constant leadership changes in the MK Party suggest an unstable structure.

"Implications are that no one feels safe in the party because they are aware that at any given time, they could be removed from their position. So everybody would want to be seen playing good next to Mr Jacobs Zuma in order to avoid being removed from their position."

On Thursday, MKP deputy president John Hlophe denied reports of a plot to remove chief whip Colleen Makhubele.

There were reports of disharmony in the caucus earlier this week, with some party MPs said to have accused her of being a poor leader and a threat to the party.

Hlophe also confirmed that party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela has been removed from the whippery caucus.

Ndou says ongoing changes in the MKP show that many of its members are unfamiliar with parliamentary procedures.

But he says Hlophe’s media briefing was a good move that helped bring some clarity.

"It was an opportunity for Dr. Hlophe to stamp this authority as a leader of the MKP in Parliament, and that is why he also had to introduce different members of the MKP, aligned to certain portfolios, making sure that they get access to the media to talk to issues related to their different portfolios."
