The KZN Department of Education says it's shocked at the news that four pupils were killed in a crash near Greytown at the weekend.
The pupils had been travelling in a vehicle that overturned on the R74 on Saturday.
Education's Kwazi Mthethwa says the children were between the ages of 13 and 16.
"Four learners lost their lives in Greytown on Saturday from a car accident. The MEC for Education in KZN sends his heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the deceased," he says.
It's understood three children died at the scene, whilst the forth victim passed away in hospital later that night.
It's still unclear what caused the crash.
