Officials reported last month that the country's only printing machine was up and running again after it went out of service in February.

At the time, the department said it had a backlog of close to three-quarters of a million applications.

More than 115,000 motorists in KwaZulu-Natal were waiting for their new licences.

Rise Mzansi's Makashule Gana has called on Transport Minister Barbara Creecy to brief the country on plans to eliminate the printing backlog.

He feels the financial setbacks have become a massive burden over the years.

" The country is currently serviced by only one driver's license card printing machine, which has far exceeded its lifespan and productivity.
