Concerned Citizens group says 'ANCYL' protesters had their own agenda in Stanger

The Chairperson of the Stanger Concerned Citizens Group says those who disrupted a fundraising event, where former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was scheduled to speak, had their own agenda.

Protestors claiming to be members of the ANC Youth League disrupted proceedings at a local hall yesterday.
The concerned citizens group's Haroun Mohamedy says people were holding anti-Gordhan posters, even though they claimed the protest was over a new mall in the area.
"This was not a political meeting. Mr Gordhan was not invited to come and give a political speech. Our intentions were for Mr Gordhan to speak to our audience and to get them interested in civic affairs. To get them to take a responsibility, take a part in the affairs of the town. That was our intention because we are a civic organisation," he says.
Mohamedy says protestors started marching as soon as the function got underway.
The youth league's leadership in KwaDukuza has distanced itself from the protest.
