Clive Naidoo, officer’s reunion off

This comes after Naidoo called Minnaar for a chat last night and said he was sorry for the entire saga.

Minnaar says he had gone to Naidoo's home in Bloubosrand yesterday and left a message for him after getting no answer.

Shitlhelana became an overnight celebrity when, instead of becoming angry when Naidoo filmed her while she cited him for allegedly jumping a red robot, she played up to him, chuckling over some of his comments and turning them back on him.

Naidoo finally called Minnaar at about 19:30pm last night from somebody else's phone.

''He was sorry for what had happened. He said his life had changed drastically after this thing. His phone is blocked up from all the calls and messages and he can't even communicate with it. He has to use somebody else's phone,'' said Minnaar.

Minnaar would not say why the planned reunion was called off, but added that he gave Naidoo advice on how to apply for cancellation of the fine if he disputed it.

‘Rise above provocation’

As far as JMPD is concerned, they don't want to take sides on the matter even though Johannesburg's public safety department said officers should rise above provocation.

Public Safety department spokesperson Thabo Rangwaga said the department wanted the officers to go for refresher courses periodically.

He said the member of the mayoral committee has told JMPD to implement this. Minnaar added that if a member of the public wants to lodge a complaint about the officer's conduct, they may do so in person at the department's internal affairs division on the corner of Village and Loveday streets in Johannesburg.

Some have said the officer was being racist by mocking Naidoo's suburb Bloubosrand by saying that was where black people and thieves lived, implying that he thought he was better than her colleagues who lived in nearby Cosmos City.

Others have criticised her for not noting that his window was cracked, and for not wearing her name badge. Metro Police officers are often criticised for allegedly asking for bribes, or for abuse of the power they hold over motorists, and video clips of encounters with them surface from time to time.

Meanwhile, tweeps are still having fun, with @Lean3Jvv writing: ''Complete the sentence: "Why did Clive Naidoo shoot the robot".
