City working hard to improve public transport system: new Durban mayor
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
New eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede says the municipality is aware of challenges facing the transport industry.
Gumede says the city is working hard to provide a reliable and efficient public transport service through the Go!Durban Integrated Rapid Transport Network.
Gumede was elected mayor at eThekwini's inaugural council meeting at the Durban City Hall yesterday.
“This council, as we speak, is devising a plan in consultation with national and provincial government to immediately change the status quo, and also to provide a sustainable solution. We are also committing ourselves to working with all stakeholders in the transport industry, including our taxi industry,” she said.
The Go!Durban project is slated for completion in 2030.
