City Manager's last day in office not a result of suspension: Mayor
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Sbu Sithole will vacate his position as Durban City Manager today.
eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede says council members met and decided that Sithole - who has reapplied for the job - must officially carry out his handover to acting manager, Dumisile Nene, today.
Nene is the Deputy City Manager for Corporate and Human Resources.
Gumede refuted media reports that Sithole had been suspended, and that she had handed him a letter instructing him to take "compulsory leave" until the end of his contract.
She said his five-year contract with the city ends this month.
"If the City Manager did not apply for his position, he was going to be finishing up his position on the 31st. But because he has applied - the last day is tomorrow where he is going to be handing over to the acting DCM. That will allow him to refresh himself and come back and do interviews, because he is one of the candidates," she said.
