Christmas cheer for motorists as fuel price drops

There's some relief for motorists this festive season with a confirmed drop in the price of fuel in December.

The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed that both grades of petrol will decrease by 65 cents a litre.


Diesel is due to decrease by between R2,35 and R2,41 per litre.


Economist, Dawie Roodt says prices in January seem uncertain at this stage.

There are a couple of issues that the financial market will start discounting for the next year, one is the budget in February and I'm afraid the budget is not going to look good but the big one is going to be elections, probably around about May." 


"That is also going to be a major event in South Africa which can potentially be quite disruptive to the financial market and the South African economy, so the budget and the election will likely kick the year off on a rather uncertain note."
