Childline urges action as KZN pastor jailed for child rape
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
KZN Childline says the sentencing of a local pastor for child rape is a relief, but faith leaders must do more to protect children.

This week, the Nquthu Regional Court handed Mandlelisa Mabhale 10 life terms and 70 years behind bars.
Some of the children used to help him with odd jobs including fixing electrical appliances.
In 2022, an adult who overheard conversations about the pastor’s activities asked the children if he had harmed them.

Although the children stayed silent, they later confessed, leading to a case being opened.
Childline KZN's Adeshni Naicker says the ruling proves justice still exists.
"Religious organizations can and must play a vital role in preventing and responding to child abuse within their communities. Because of the influence, trust, and presence in people's lives, they're uniquely positioned to protect children and promote healing."
