Child rapist gets life, Childline KZN welcomes sentence

A children's rights group has welcomed the stiff sentence handed down to a KZN man convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl in Madadeni, northern KZN.

Elphius Shabangu committed the crime last year before fleeing the province.
He was later arrested in Mpumalanga, where he was linked to the rape of two other minor children.
This week, the Madadeni Regional Court convicted Shabangu on three counts of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Childline KZN’s Adeshni Naicker they are extremely relieved that justice has been served in this matter."
Sexual violence against children is a devastating crime and it's absolutely critical that our justice system sends out a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated."
