Chatsworth taxi drivers left in the dust over card system dispute
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
Durban Metro Police say teams of officers have been deployed to the Welbedacht Taxi Rank in Chatsworth, where there had been reports of violence early this morning.

Metro police spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersad says it turned out to be an internal dispute between a local taxi association and its drivers.

"The association are trying to introduce a card system for the drivers where the drivers are all endorsed on the card."
"The drivers are refusing to comply with this. There are just 40 drivers that are involved. However, the owners now have taken the taxis away from the drivers and the buses are now operating in the area," he says.
He says there were no reports of injuries.

Sewpersad says the drivers have now gathered at the rank, under the watchful eye of the police.
"The drivers are standing in groups. However, if they try to intermediate, we will enforce the law," he says.
