Changes to eThekwini beach permit system ahead of festive season
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
eThekwini Municipality will make it easier for private vehicle owners to have access to the beach over the festive season.

The municiplaity says private vehicle owners will be allowed access to parking along Durban's Golden Mile - because it's doing away with beach permits this year.
Metro police spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersad says this doesn't apply to minibus taxis and buses though.
"We are not going to introduce the permit system - hence there will be traffic on the beachfront. However, minibus taxis and buses will not be permitted on the beachfront. We will have designated parking areas for them and we will encourage them to use those parking areas," Sewpersad said.

Sewpersad says they'll be conducting regular patrols along the beachfront and at hotspots across the city.
"We will have a joint operations centre set up during the festive season. There will be a traffic management plan in place and a parking management plan in place. We want to encourage people coming to Durban to enjoy themselves and act responsibly," Sewpersad said.
