The murder case against Alutha Pasile has been postponed in the East London Magistrate's Court.
Pasile is accused of killing and dismembering the body of his 23-year-old girlfriend Nosicelo Mtebeni.
Mtebeni was a fourth-year LLB student at the Fort Hare University.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Anelisa Ngcakani says Pasile made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday.
"The matter was postponed to 9 November for further investigation. The accused elected not to apply for bail or have legal representation."
Pasile abandoned his bail application in August.
The murder sent shockwaves through the country after Mtebeni's dismembered body was found in a suitcase.
Some of her body parts were discovered in bags outside her boyfriend's residence.
