Police have launched a manhunt after a caretaker of a University of Zululand residence was shot and killed in Umhlathuze.
It's understood three balaclava-clad assailants invaded the cottages on Friday night.
They robbed two students of their laptops and cellphones in one of the rooms before proceeding to the next room and robbing another student of his phone.
Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says suspects are unknown at this stage.

"Police in Mtunzini are investigating cases of murder and house robbery following an incident in which a caretaker of cottages was allegedly shot and killed in the Mhlathuze area on Friday night.
"After the suspects had fled from the crime scene, the victims reportedly went to the caretaker's room to report the incident, only to find him lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound."
Meanwhile, the university has suspended lectures due to a protest at its Dlangezwa campus on Monday morning.
