Canegrowers Association calls for review of sugar tax
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The South African Canegrowers Association is calling on Finance Minister Tito Mboweni to rethink the sugar tax before delivering his budget speech tomorrow.
The association's Thomas Funke claims the sugar industry has lost R925-million since the tax was implemented in April last year.
He says the industry could stand to lose some 6500 jobs if the sugar tax is not shelved.
Funke says any future taxes should be put on hold until a full impact assessment is conducted with regards to the current sugar tax.
Minister Tito Mboweni will table the Budget Speech before the National Assembly at 2pm, on Thursday.
