Ubunye Bamahostela has been reacting to the murder of a 46-year-old man in the complex's Block R on Sunday.

Police say Sthembiso Mkhize suffered multiple gunshot wounds on his head and back.

UBH is a community-based organisation that represents residents living in Durban's 10 hostels.

Spokesperson Muzi Ntuli says Mkhize's murder has left them shocked.

"We have tried to contact the police to ask them to intervene as this issue is affecting the community because our people are scared.

"We have got a big problem in Glebelands. We are still trying to find out, [Sthembiso] I know him, he is a quiet man, I worked with him. He was part of the peace committee. I don't know what happened."

Umlazi SAPS is investigating a murder case, the motive for the attack is still unknown.
