This as banks are downsizing and permanently closing some branches as they shift towards electronically centred manner of banking. Employees are unhappy over retrenchments.

Finance Union's Joel Kokela says marches are set to take place across the country.

"We said that we are calling for the total shutdown, so it means that the banks will be closed. There'll be no services that will be coming from any bank in the country, because our members will be embarking on a protest,” he said.

“ATMs might not be functioning," he added.
