SACCI says the business climate had a notably uneven course since the end of 2015.

Positive monthly contributions to the BCI last month mainly came from merchandise import and export volumes, energy and more new vehicles sold.

Downing says investor confidence needs urgent attention.

A major issue is investor confidence - people that create assets in the economy - is not increasing at all at the moment. We are well below levels of capital needed to keep the economy growing. That's a major concern that we must pay attention to," he said.
