British man among three arrested for child porn

A major investigation targeting online child predators in the country has led to the arrests of three suspects including a British man.

Police teamed up with US Homeland Security officials to carry out the months-long probe into the possession, distribution and manufacturing of child pornography.   

 

National SAPS spokesperson Athlende Mathe says they pounced on the trio during a takedown operation in Gauteng.

She says the British national nabbed in Springs is in the country illegally. 

 

"The suspect faces offences related to bestiality where police have seized material of him allegedly having sexual intercourse with a dog. 

 

"Other offences are related to child pornography such as: possession, distribution, accessing, downloading, facilitating, viewing facilitating the distribution and making available child pornography, exposure of a child to adult and child pornography, grooming of a child.

 

"The second suspect who is a 43-year-old South African male was arrested in Benoni, Gauteng. The suspect also faces offences relating to child pornography. The third suspect, a 43-year-old South African male suspect was arrested in Krugersdorp, Gauteng. He too faces charges relating to child pornography."

 

Three victims of child sexual abuse and a dog were removed from harm. 

 

The men appeared in Springs, Benoni and Krugersdorp Magistrates Court in Gauteng. 

 

All cases were postponed for further investigation and bail applications. 

 

Meanwhile, police say they're working to unravel the network of sex predators in other provinces.
