Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The leaked matric exam papers, Mathematics Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2 will be re-written.
Basic Education Minister - Angie Motshekga made the announcement at a briefing this afternoon.
"We agreed as CEM that there will be a re-write. The Maths Paper Two will be written on the 15th of December and Physical Science on the 17th of December."
The two matric papers were leaked prior to them being written.
The department says it and other roleplayers considered three options: a national re-write, a national Maths re-write and a selective re-write of Physical Science or no re-write.
Motshekga says this is the first time in the country's history that there's been a national rewrite of a National Senior Certificate exam

" It is a very difficult and sad decision to take. We've had provincial re-writes but it's the first time ever, we find ourselves having to do a national re-write. There continue to be difficulties, There are parts of the sector which is not in agreement. But we had to take the decision."
The Maths paper leak is believed to have spread to eight provinces, including KZN.
An employee of a printing company was arrested by the Hawks and appeared in court last week in connection with the Maths paper leak.
