Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen, Bernadette Wolhuter
The Hawks say a decomposed body that was found near the Tugela River mouth several weeks ago is that of Rodney Saunders.
The 74-year-old botanist and his 63-year-old wife, Rachel Saunders disappeared in February - while doing some work in Vryheid.
The Hawks' Lloyd Ramovha says a team remains on the ground searching for Rachel Saunders.
Meanwhile, the accused in the matter appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court today.
The case against teenage-accused Themba Xulu will now be heard separately from that of his three co-accused.

The State said in terms of plea and sentencing negotiations with Xulu, the nineteen-year-old was likely to face lesser charges than those levelled against his co-accused.
Xulu was arrested after being found in possession of cellphones belonging to the Saunders.
Currently - Xulu, Sayfydeen Del Vecchio, Fatima Patel, and Ahmad Mussa have all been charged with kidnapping and murder.
Del Vecchio and Patel are applying for bail.
