Bereaved family drags 'corpse' to Old Mutual after failed policy pay out
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A KwaZulu-Natal family dragged the remains of a dead relative to the Old Mutual officers, claiming that the insurance company 'failed' to pay out a funeral claim.
On Tuesday, several videos emerged on Twitter, showing the family carrying the 'corpse' - which was in a body bag - out of Old Mutual's KwaZulu-Natal officers.
According to one user @Johz1, the policyholder had to rope in an aunt and family members after Old Mutual failed to pay the benefit on time.

Twitter users called out the company, with many claiming to cancel their policies.
In response to the allegations, the company said the claim was paid.
"This has been most unsettling and we are sympathetic towards the family during this difficult time. We can confirm that the claim was paid. Due to the sensitive nature of this matter, we will continue engaging directly with the family."
"We take note of this incident and would like to assure our customers that claims are assessed on an individual basis and the incident at this branch whilst isolated is regrettable."
“While we make every attempt to settle claims as speedily as possible, this specific claim had to undergo further assessments. Old Mutual strives to pay claims speedily - 99% of funeral claims are paid within 8 hours once all requirements are met," it said.
