Basic Education ‘won’t contest’ court challenge on publishing of matric results
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Basic Education says it will now be guided by the courts on whether it should publish the final matric exam results in the newspapers.
The
Department said last week that the 2021 matric exam results won't be shared on
public platforms this year, in compliance with Popia or the Protection of
Personal Information Act.
But it's released a statement to say that some organisations have approached a high court to challenge this decision.
Lobby group AfriForum indicated last week that it would contest the decision in the High Court.
The results are being released on Friday.

Basic Education's Elijah Mhlanga says they're hoping a decision on the way forward is made tomorrow
The department has received many representations from organisations as well as individuals who have come forward to express themselves on the decision that was announced last week.
Mhlanga says the government is facing a situation where there is a court matter which will sit on Tuesday and they will wait for that court ruling
