Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The Department of Basic Education has asked for an extension from the Health Department in order to cover outstanding Covid-19 vaccinations for teachers and other school staff.
The campaign is due to end on Thursday.
Minister Angie Motshekga has given an update on the drive.
She says the latest figures show 400 000 people in the sector have so far received the jab.
The department had set a target of 582 000 people.

The minister says staff, including food handlers and cleaners from independent schools are being added to the system, taking their target to nearly 790 000.
"I do hope that between tomorrow [Thursday] and Friday, we would have dealt with some of the backlogs.
"So we hope by Friday or latest Monday we would have a clear picture as to how many teachers have been vaccinated or how many people in the sector have been vaccinated and how many are outstanding and under those outstanding what are the reasons and then help them to vaccinate."
