Bail bid for Durban teacher postponed
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The formal bail application of the Sydenham teacher accused of sexually grooming a 14-year-old pupil has been postponed after the State had a problem locating the docket this morning.
The 33-year-old man made his second appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, only to be told the application could not go ahead as the investigating officer was not present.
The magistrate was forced to apologise to the teacher for the inconvenience after the State said the docket had not been sent back to the investigating officer.
The prosecutor says the I/O was not aware he needed to attend proceedings today.
The teacher's alternate address had also not been checked.
The prosecutor continued to say they battled to find the docket this morning and only with the help of another officer were they able to find it.
With no objections from either side, the matter was postponed in Courtroom eight until Wednesday.
The prosecutor was told to ensure the I/O is in court. The teacher allegedly sent explicit photos and videos to the pupil.
