A 16-month-old child has drowned in a residential swimming pool in Pietermaritzburg.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says they responded to the call earlier today after being told that a child was found floating in the pool.
"When paramedics arrived they found that the child had been pulled out but tragically the child was found dead at the scene,"
SAPS was at the scene and has opened an investigation.
Meanwhile, two drowning incidents have made headlines today. Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a nine-year-old boy was discovered at St Michaels Lagoon on the south coast yesterday.
In another incident, a man drowned at Albert Falls Dam after jumping from a height into the water and failed to resurface.
