Authorities to expand probe following license test fraud
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The KZN Transport Department is investigating whether a man accused of fraudulently taking learner driver tests for at least 25 applicants had help from officials.
The 39-year-old suspect was arrested at the Mariannhill Licensing Centre last week. He apparently charged the applicants he took tests for R3 500 each.
Transport's Kwanele Ncalane says they suspect officials were involved.
"Our investigation will be expanded to determine if there are any others involved and if this is part of a syndicate operation", he said.
"We want to arrest all who are involved in this, including our own officials, should it be so", Kwanele said.
"Our view is that the illegal issuing of licenses to non-qualifying persons is a contributing factor to crashes on our roads", he said.
