Athlete dies after collapsing at Howick race
A man has died after he collapsed at a sporting event in the Howick.
Emergency services say he was participating in an athletics race and collapsed moments before reaching the finish line.
Midlands EMS paramedics on site say they found the athlete in cardiac arrest.
Spokesperson, Roland Robertson said CPR was commenced without delay, and Advanced Life Support protocols were initiated.

"The patient was placed on a manual ventilator and received multiple shocks from a defibrillator in an effort to restore a heartbeat."
He said after a sustained and intense resuscitation effort by Midlands EMS Advanced Life Support personnel, Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) was achieved on scene.
"The patient was stabilized and transported under continuous ALS care to a nearby hospital for further treatment and monitoring.Sadly, despite the tireless efforts of the medical team, the patient later passed away."
