The future of around 1 000 people is uncertain after their homes were destroyed during a storm in the Ekuphumleni area near Ladysmith.
Yesterday, the province's Disaster Management team was dispatched to the area after 100 homes were destroyed on Friday night. Cogta spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, says they will make tents, foods and blankets available to those affected.
"Our department has dispatch Disaster Management teams to offer much-needed help and to also assess the damage," he said.
"Our MEC would like to call on all the people of KZN to always be alert because our province is very prone to natural disasters of this nature, especially during the summer season," Mayisela said.
Friday night's storm also left 11 people hurt, with 2 seriously so. They were all treated by paramedics with some taken to hospital.
