At a national executive committee (NEC) briefing on Tuesday, deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte condemned the activities of some individuals operating under the MK Vets banner at Nkandla.

Dozens of members made a beeline for the former president's northern KZN home last week, following his 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court.

The association's spokesperson Carl Niehaus said they were there to protect Zuma from arrest.

He is adamant that they won't accept the NEC's decision.

He says it's not legally or politically possible for the ANC to disband it because the association is an autonomous structure.

Political analyst Imraan Buccus says the disbandment may only happen theoretically.

"In reality, they will continue to play some kind of social movement. Quite clearly, they may not be able to use the name and they may not have a formal structure, but as a social movement, I think they will continue to mobilise.

"We have seen that with people like Carl Niehaus and others, they continue to drive divisions, they continue to drive this idea that they are completely behind Zuma. I certainly don't think they have the national interest at heart."
