ANC supports NPA appeal in Omotoso case

The ANC supports the steps taken by prosecutors
to seek justice for the alleged victims in the Timothy Omotoso case.

The Nigerian televangelist was acquitted last month charges of rape and human trafficking by the Eastern Cape High Court.
He left the country at the weekend after the Department of Home Affairs declared him a prohibited person and barred him from South Africa for five years.
Despite his departure, the National Prosecuting Authority said it will proceed with its appeal against his acquittal.
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said they welcomed the decision.

He spoke on Monday, while visiting the home of the late ANC Women's League deputy president Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe in Westville.
"Whatever the weaknesses that were expressed legally, they need to be followed up and he must be brought to book because that seemed to be almost like a miscarriage of justice," said Mbalula.
"So, we are on the side of the victims, and we believe them."
Sixty-four-year-old Mnganga-Gcabashe will be laid to rest at Durban ICC on Saturday.
Meanwhile Mbalula said mending relations between South Africa and the US is crucial.
He was commenting ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa's visit to the White House on Wednesday.
