ANC remaining tight-lipped on Mchunu’s alleged recall
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The ANC in
KZN is remaining tight-lipped around allegations that Premier Senzo Mchunu has
been recalled.
Speculation was rife on Friday evening that
the party’s provincial structure had given Mchunu until Monday to resign.
Reports also
suggested that a provincial cabinet reshuffle was imminent, with several MEC’s
likely to be replaced.
The ANC’s
KZN spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli has neither confirmed nor denied the claims.
“Our view as the ANC was that if we step into the public space, either to confirm or deny the information that is circulating, we will now give a face to what at the moment appears to be information without authority. So we will inadvertently become the source of that information. We have taken the position that we will not confirm and we will not deny,” he said.
Meanwhile,
ANC members honoured Nongoma Ward 10 councillor, Thami Nyembe in the northern KZN
on Saturday.
The
50-year-old was gunned down while driving on Monday.
His wife
survived the attack.
Ntuli says
they’re waiting for police to establish the reason behind his assassination.
