ANC denies Zuma legal bill assistance
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The ANC has distanced itself from a social media banner calling on people to contribute funds towards Jacob Zuma's legal fees.
This week the Pretoria High Court ruled that the former President must pay his own legal bill. He has been in and out of court over charges of corruption, racketeering and money laundering among other things.
Some estimates have Zuma's legal costs at between R15-million and R30-million.
The ANC's Dakota Legoete says the party is in no way involved in a drive to collect funds for Zuma.
"We have noticed a banner in ANC colours making the rounds on social media purporting to be raising funds for the former president", he said.
"The ANC contacted comrade Jacob Zuma who has no knowledge of this. So the ANC warns citizens to cautious of any scam or con artists who may want to exploit the name of the former president for their own gain", Legoete said.
