Analyst: Zille top DA position comeback not without risk
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A political analyst says if the DA gives the influential position of Federal Council Chairperson to Helen Zille it needs to understand that there are risks involved.
Zille stepped down as the party's leader in 2015. She recently joined the Institute of Race Relations as Senior Policy Fellow. But she has put that on hold and says she made herself available as a candidate to chair the Federal Council after being approached by some senior leaders.
Political Analyst Ibrahim Fakir says Zille once presided over a period of growth for the DA.
"Perhaps she rubs people up the wrong way, makes some some ill-advised tweets and says some ill-advised things but sometimes she is taken out of context", he said.
"However that does not excuse her from saying some of her more outlandish and outrageous things", Fakir said.
